Begin with the device, not the brand name.
Distill supports local monitoring through browser extensions and desktop apps, as well as cloud checks on its servers. It is not a browser-only product. PageFluxer also offers independent Cloud checks and a Chrome-local option, but their supported devices, allowances and capture workflows differ.
If a particular browser or desktop environment is central to your setup, evaluate that first. If the priority is a team review routine or a specific price/stock condition, test the complete path from capture to retained evidence. The right comparison starts with the job the monitor must do.
Compare local requirements and supported sources.
| Area | PageFluxer | Distill.io |
|---|---|---|
| Local devices | The PageFluxer Chrome extension on desktop. | Browser extensions and desktop apps; its site lists several browser and operating-system options. |
| Cloud checks | Cloud HTML and Cloud Browser, with separate check allowances. | Server-side cloud monitors, with plan-dependent intervals and checks. |
| Local requirements | Chrome running on an awake device; temporary inactive tabs and successful sync. | The local browser or desktop device must run. Browser checks can use tabs or supported background modes. |
| Documents and sources | Public PDF text and RSS/Atom/sitemap source workflows run in Cloud. | Documentation lists PDF and XML monitoring in Cloud rather than Local. |
| Signed-in pages | Local Chrome session, or a separately approved supported Cloud site connection. | Local browser/session workflows and cloud configurations require their own setup and testing. |
| Review and delivery | History, labels, reviewed state and exports; email plus plan-dependent webhooks and team channels. | Conditions and notifications, including email, phone push and paid SMS/other delivery options. |
Check what counts toward each allowance.
| Provider | Price and billing term | Selected allowances |
|---|---|---|
| PageFluxer Free | $0 | 3 Cloud and 10 Local monitors; separate check/upload allowances. |
| PageFluxer Starter | $5 USD monthly, or $50 USD billed annually | 25 Cloud and 50 Local monitors; Local intervals from 2 minutes. |
| Distill Free | $0 | 25 monitors, including up to 5 in Cloud; 1,000 monthly cloud checks and a 6-hour minimum cloud interval. |
| Distill Starter | $15/month on its monthly pricing view | 50 monitors, 30,000 monthly cloud checks and a 10-minute minimum cloud interval. |
Distill describes local checks as unlimited, while its cloud accounting uses 10-second check units. PageFluxer Local has saved-monitor, device, capture-upload and byte allowances, and shares workspace history and notification limits. A “check” or “unlimited” label should therefore not be treated as an identical unit across products.
These are selected examples, not equivalent plans or a cost ranking. Competitor dollar amounts are shown as published; confirm billing currency, taxes and the selected term. Compare Distill’s current pricing with PageFluxer’s allowances for the workload you intend to run.
When either product may fit better.
Consider Distill when…
You need its wider browser/desktop device options, very short local intervals or a notification destination such as paid SMS. Its documented device model may suit a workflow already organized around those environments. Test reliability and resource use on your own machine.
Consider PageFluxer when…
Your setup centers on Chrome and you want selected Local captures brought into the same workspace as Cloud monitors, with explicit rules, retained context and a shared review path. PageFluxer’s Local feature page and setup reference describe the supported scope.
Evaluate a signed-in workflow carefully.
If a login is the main reason you need Local, use a read-only page and an appropriately limited account. Confirm that a fresh background tab sees the intended session. In PageFluxer, add a unique visible signed-in marker and inspect the captured selection.
Local means where the check runs, not automatically where every result stays. PageFluxer uploads selected content for history and notifications without exporting website cookies or authentication storage. Review each provider’s own data handling for your use case.
Record the monitor’s intent.
Keep its URL, selected region, rule, device, interval and destinations together. Do not assume a selector or condition has identical semantics in another product.
Create a fresh PageFluxer baseline.
Follow the signed-in page walkthrough. This evaluation recreates the monitor; it does not transfer Distill history or credentials.
Review captured results and health.
Confirm the expected change and delivery. Decide whether device dependencies, allowances and retained context meet your actual needs before moving the rest of the list.
