MONITORING IDEAS

Does website monitoring work when your computer is off?

Understand what happens to PageFluxer Cloud and PageFluxer Local monitors when you close a tab, quit Chrome or put your laptop to sleep, and how to check capture health afterward.

The answer depends on where the check runs.

Closing your laptop should not leave you guessing about a monitor. PageFluxer has two ways to check a page, and they handle time away from your desk differently.

Cloud runs on PageFluxer infrastructure. Your computer and Chrome do not need to stay open. Local runs through the PageFluxer Chrome extension in the profile you connected. It needs Chrome running on an awake desktop, an enabled extension and working access to the source. Both methods still depend on successful captures and your notification settings.

A check after a gap sees the page as it is then.

Imagine a Local watch last captured a price of 120. While the computer sleeps, the price drops to 90 and returns to 120. If the next successful check sees 120, PageFluxer cannot recover the short-lived offer it never captured. A threshold rule cannot fill that gap.

If the price remains 90 when checking resumes, the new capture can be compared with the retained successful baseline and evaluated against the saved rule. Uploads and delivery may still take time. Review the evidence timestamp, not just when an email arrived.

Cloud reduces dependence on your desktop, but it is still scheduled monitoring. Changes between successful Cloud checks can be missed too. Choose a practical interval and use official publisher alerts when timing is critical.

Check the last success, not just the green connection.

Recent browser contact tells you that PageFluxer heard from the connected Chrome profile. It does not prove that every source page loaded, every login was still valid or every selection returned content.

  1. Open the correct Chrome profile.

Confirm that the desktop is awake and online and the PageFluxer extension is enabled. Open Local monitors and choose Refresh to synchronize.

  2. Review the monitor's last successful check.

A recent result may be an error or an unchanged check. Inspect the capture and error details before deciding that the content is fresh.

  3. Test any source that needs attention.

Confirm permission, the website session and the selected content. Test preparation steps in the fresh tab used for Local capture. Then review subsequent successful checks.

The browser-health reference explains the status labels and update process. Keep the same extension installation and Chrome profile when updating so your Local setup remains available.

Choose the method around your actual routine.

Use Cloud HTML when its preview captures the public content you need and you want checks to continue away from your desk. Cloud Browser can load supported JavaScript pages and supports separate approved site connections on eligible plans. It does not inherit your personal Chrome login.

Use Local when a supported page needs your own Chrome session and you can keep the browser available for the monitoring you want. Cookies and browser sign-in storage stay on the device; selected content is sent to PageFluxer for history and notifications. Local is not an offline-only tool.

You can move supported monitors between Cloud and Local through a fresh test and confirmation. Moving a monitor does not make an unsupported capture work, bypass site restrictions or recover missed history. See the Free allowances before deciding which method to keep running.
