Check what actually changed: text, layout or the link.
A publisher might replace a PDF at the same address, add a new document with a different filename, or re-export the same wording with a new layout. Those events need different monitoring strategies.
| What happened? | What to monitor |
|---|---|
| The wording inside the same PDF changed | The direct PDF URL, using document-text monitoring. |
| A new PDF was linked from a publishing page | New links on that page, or new entries in its public feed/sitemap. Then add the new PDF URL. |
| Only a signature, diagram or layout changed | PDF text monitoring is not sufficient. Review the document visually; PageFluxer’s screenshot monitoring is for supported webpages, not PDF pages. |
Try selecting and copying a sentence in the document. A readable text layer is a useful first check, although the actual PageFluxer preview is what confirms capture compatibility. Scanned pages and unusual font encodings may still produce no useful text.
Set up a monitor for the direct public PDF URL.
Copy the publisher’s document link.
Use the public HTTP or HTTPS address of the PDF itself, not a local file, an internal browser-viewer URL or a webpage that embeds it. The document must be accessible without signing in.
Inspect Document text in the preview.
Paste the URL into Add monitor. PageFluxer recognizes PDFs by the URL or response. Check the extracted wording, page count and readable-page count, especially around tables or multiple columns.
Choose a text rule.
Use any text change for general revisions. Use starts containing or stops containing a phrase when a particular announcement matters. PDF monitoring selects the whole document; it does not target a rectangle or an individual page.
Save the first capture and check delivery.
The preview becomes a quiet baseline. Select the interval and configure available notifications. Later matching transitions can alert; a phrase already present at setup does not create an immediate change event.
Test a phrase transition with two sample documents.
An application notice opens
What this meansA starts containing rule for “Applications open” becomes true after the replacement document is captured successfully.
Open the before PDF and the after PDF to inspect the text. Both are small selectable-text documents. They remain separate static examples on this site.
For a reproducible monitoring test, download the example kit and publish the before file at a public URL you control, such as your own /sample-notice.pdf. Save a monitor with the phrase rule. Replace the served file with the after version at that same URL, confirm your host is serving the new bytes, and wait for a successful check.
The monitor follows the address you saved. Opening the second sample in another tab or uploading a replacement at a different address will not change the first URL’s baseline.
Know what the document comparison includes.
PageFluxer compares extracted text, including additions, removals and wording changes. A new PDF timestamp or layout-only revision is not itself a text alert. Reflowed text, reordered columns or changed encoding can still affect extraction; inspect the before and after instead of assuming every highlighted difference is substantive.
The current parser accepts public, unprotected PDFs up to 5 MiB, 100 pages and 512 KiB of extracted text. It does not provide OCR, compare signatures or images, or store the original PDF as a permanent evidence archive. Failed or oversized captures preserve the last successful baseline rather than becoming an empty document.
PDFs use Cloud processing and share the HTML check allowance; Local PDF monitoring is not supported. Free includes an ongoing PDF allowance, while paid plans allow more within their monitor slots. See PDF limits and troubleshooting and current plans.
Keep the revision useful after the alert.
Read the surrounding paragraph and open the publisher’s current document. Note whether the source has an effective date, version number or accompanying notice. For a team workflow, label the monitor by supplier or policy family and record the review decision in the system your team uses.
Retained text is useful for reviewing what PageFluxer captured. If your process requires the original document, save that separately under your own records policy. PageFluxer history is subject to retention and storage limits and is not a certified archive.
