How to Monitor GOV.UK Pages for Changes

Keep an official guidance page in view. Choose the publisher’s update service or a focused wording monitor, then give each captured revision a clear review step.

Start with the official subscription when it fits.

Some GOV.UK pages offer email updates. Use that option when you want the publisher’s announcements. A focused page monitor is useful when your team needs to review captured wording from a particular section alongside other sources.

Our example is the public-sector website accessibility guidance. This guide explains how to watch the page, not how to interpret the regulations. Always return to the current official publication before acting on a change.

Choose the GOV.UK update you need
QuestionApproach
Has the publisher announced an update?Use the page’s email subscription when offered.
Did this guidance section change?Monitor its readable text at the canonical page URL.
Was a new document listed?Watch a suitable public collection or supported feed; inspect which entries are included.
Did an attached PDF change?Create a separate PDF text monitor and also watch for replacement download links.

Use the published access policy.

GOV.UK’s reuse guidance explicitly permits scraping when its robots policy is respected, and explains that excessive requests can be rate limited. Its content is generally available under the Open Government Licence, with exceptions and attribution requirements.

Check the current robots policy for your exact path and the terms before setup. This guidance applies to GOV.UK; a linked council, agency service or private portal may have different rules.

A daily check is a reasonable initial choice for a non-urgent guidance review, subject to your needs and the publisher’s policy. Stop or back off on access errors. PageFluxer is independent of GOV.UK and does not certify legal compliance.

What we verified in PageFluxer.

On October 16, 2026, PageFluxer’s Cloud HTML preview loaded the example guidance page. A text target using Main content returned the guidance heading and body rather than the opening cookie notice. The broader page preview included cookie and navigation text, which is why scope matters.

This was a preview and target evaluation, not a long-running reliability trial or an observed government update. No recurring monitor or notification was created for this test. Confirm your own preview because page structure and access can change.

Set up a focused guidance monitor.

  1. Open the current official page.

Copy its canonical public URL. Keep the page’s title, responsible organisation and reason for watching in your review notes.

  2. Preview the readable guidance.

Create a Page changes monitor. Start with HTML loading and inspect Main content, or select the specific guidance section. Use selection controls to leave out cookies, navigation and unrelated links.

  3. Choose a wording-change rule.

Use Any change when you need every captured revision. A literal phrase rule can miss a rewritten obligation or deadline if the watched phrase stays present.

  4. Confirm the baseline and review schedule.

Save the correct starting text, choose a permitted interval, and configure delivery. For a shared Business workspace, agree who will review the source and mark the retained change reviewed.

  5. Check the original before making a decision.

Read the captured difference alongside the page’s update history and current wording. Record the source and capture time; an alert is a prompt for review.

Keep documents, announcements and interpretation separate.

Monitoring a guidance page does not automatically monitor the contents of its linked PDFs. A new download URL can also leave a monitor following an older document. Use the PDF guide for document revisions and keep the publishing page in view.

A source watch finds newly seen entries, not every edit to an existing page. A page monitor only compares successful captures, and history is subject to plan limits. Neither is an official publication archive or a substitute for the publisher’s notification service.

Common questions

Is this an official GOV.UK integration?
No. This is an independent PageFluxer workflow using a permitted public source. It is not endorsed by GOV.UK.
Can I use it for every UK government website?
No blanket permission is implied. Check the exact host, page, terms and robots policy. A separate service or local authority can have different access rules.
Does the example need a browser check or extension?
The tested page’s readable guidance was available through Cloud HTML. Your chosen source may behave differently. Confirm the actual capture; no extension is required for that HTML workflow.
