WordPress Release Alerts with RSS and PageFluxer

Bring WordPress core announcements into a maintenance review routine. Start with the official release source and choose the coverage your team needs.

Follow release announcements from WordPress.org.

An agency maintaining several sites may want one release review queue with a source link and an assigned reviewer. Start with the official WordPress release announcements and their RSS feed. WordPress publishes feeds for readers and uses its own news feed in the WordPress dashboard.

If the WordPress dashboard or an ordinary feed reader already meets your needs, use it. PageFluxer adds a shared watch list, retained matching changes and configured notification delivery. It does not inspect your installed versions, apply updates or determine whether your sites are vulnerable.

Two ways to follow the release source
WorkflowUse it forAvailability
RSS source watchNew entries from the publisher’s structured release feed.Recurring watches on Pro or Business.
New items on the release pageNewly detected article links in a selected public page list.Ordinary page monitoring allowances on all plans.
Text monitor on one announcementLater wording changes inside that particular article.A separate page monitor within your allowance.

What the source tests showed.

On October 16, 2026, the release feed returned HTTP 200 as RSS XML. Parsing that response with PageFluxer’s source parser produced 10 entries. Separately, a PageFluxer Cloud HTML preview of the release page succeeded, and a Main content New items target returned release links.

The feed and webpage are different windows into the archive. They need not list the same number of entries. These tests establish capture and parsing at that time; they do not establish future access, a saved recurring watch or delivered release notifications.

Use the publisher’s feed for this workflow, respect its current access rules and choose a modest interval. A feed is intended for subscription; it is not permission to crawl unrelated WordPress-hosted sites or republish entire articles.

Create the feed watch and choose its coverage.

  1. Preview the release feed.

Open Watch for new entries and paste https://wordpress.org/news/category/releases/feed/. Review the parsed entries. A preview is available on all plans; saving a recurring source watch requires Pro or Business.

  2. Start with any new entry.

Keep all release announcements if completeness matters. This category can include beta and release-candidate posts. A literal security phrase filter is narrower and can miss relevant releases whose title or short feed description does not contain that word.

  3. Confirm the quiet starting point.

Review the name, interval and starting entries, then save. Existing entries become known without a flood of alerts. Future first-seen entries are eligible to match.

  4. Route the review.

Configure email or a digest after saving. Business can route selected monitors to connected Slack or Microsoft Teams channels. Give the reviewer a clear action: read the official announcement and evaluate the sites they maintain.

  5. Monitor an individual announcement when needed.

A known feed entry being edited does not create another new-entry alert. Create a separate text monitor if later corrections to one announcement matter.

Use the page-list workflow when a source watch is unnecessary.

On the release category page, choose New items, inspect the detected articles and narrow the selection to the release list. Avoid including site navigation and unrelated links. Existing items establish the starting list; subsequent new matching items can alert.

A page-list phrase matches the captured title or URL. A feed watch can also use the feed’s supplied description. Neither option opens every article to search its full text. See the source reference and page-list monitoring for the distinction.

Turn the alert into a maintenance decision.

Keep a small review record: announcement URL, captured time, affected product, person responsible and next action. In Business, reviewed/unreviewed state helps teammates see what has been checked. A label can group this source with other permitted vendor release feeds.

Feeds are finite and can rotate entries out between checks. Publisher identity changes can make an older article look new. Use a controlled alert test to verify delivery without waiting for WordPress to publish something.

Common questions

Does this cover plugins and themes?
This example follows WordPress core release announcements. Plugin and theme publishers have their own release sources and access policies. Confirm the source for each product separately.
Can I exclude every prerelease automatically?
Do not assume that a literal phrase filter understands release channels. Review the source taxonomy and captured fields. A positive phrase filter can narrow the watch, but it is not a semantic stable-release classifier.
Is PageFluxer affiliated with WordPress?
No. This is an independent workflow using the publisher’s public release source.
