THE PAGEFLUXER FIELD GUIDE

Build a News and Research Source Watch List

Use a small set of primary sources to discover new publications, then keep the articles that matter under a separate revision watch.

Define the coverage you actually need

Start with the organizations whose publications inform your work: an official newsroom, research institute, public agency or issuer’s investor-relations page. Write down the topic and review owner. A small, deliberate watch list is easier to validate than an overlapping collection of homepages.

Choose a discovery source by the information it provides
SourceUseful forCheck first
Visible publication indexNew linked reports and releasesDetected titles, URLs, pagination and selected region
RSS or Atom feedPublisher-supplied entriesWhether the needed phrase is in the supplied title or entry text
SitemapNewly listed URLsURL scope, source limits and whether publication metadata exists

Ongoing feed and sitemap source watches require Pro or Business. A New items monitor follows the list on a supported page. Neither route promises complete coverage of everything an organization publishes.

Preview before adding topic filters

  1. Inspect a representative source

Use a permitted index and confirm that the detected list contains several actual publications. Remove navigation and unrelated recommendations through a narrower selection.

  2. Understand phrase scope

A page’s New items filter checks link text or URLs. It does not fetch the entire linked article. A source watch can match only the feed fields supplied and shown in its preview.

  3. Confirm the baseline and cadence

The starting entries establish a baseline. Choose a schedule that fits the research task, then enable notifications and label by topic.

  4. Add important documents to a shortlist

Create a separate text monitor for an article body or a supported text-based PDF if later corrections matter. Confirm the direct URL and extraction.

Test discovery and corrections independently

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE

A fictional issuer newsroom

BeforeAnnual results → /reports/annual
AfterAnnual results → /reports/annual Operations update → /news/operations

What this meansThe operations URL is new. A revision to the annual report at its existing URL needs a separate text or PDF monitor.

Illustrative publication list. A captured discovery time is not necessarily the publisher’s release time.

Use full URLs in the new-item tester and include titles after the optional separator. Test an unrelated title against your phrase too. Then preview a shortlisted article separately to confirm that later edits would be captured in the right section.

Preserve source context in the review

Read the original publication before quoting or acting on it. Retained captures help identify revisions, but they are not a complete archive or verification of the author’s claims. Follow source reuse rules and keep citations in your own research notes.

For company research, keep reporting periods and document versions clear. PageFluxer is a scheduled monitoring service, not live market data or a trading-alert feed. For a newsroom, decide who reviews each topic and use a shared Business workspace only when every member should see its captured content.

Common questions

Will changing a sitemap lastmod value produce a new-page alert?

Not by itself. New URL discovery concerns a URL that has not already been seen. Monitor the existing page separately for revisions.

Will PageFluxer search the web for every mention of a topic?

No. It follows the pages or sources you configure. See search alerts versus website monitoring for the distinction.

Start with one page that matters.

Confirm the capture, choose the change worth hearing about, and keep the evidence close.
