Follow the package’s published release feed.
PyPI documents a project-specific RSS feed at https://pypi.org/rss/project/<project_name>/releases.xml. Use that published interface for release announcements instead of repeatedly extracting a project’s presentation page.
For example, the Requests project feed supplies release versions and links to their project pages. PageFluxer can keep this source in the same review queue as other release announcements and deliver matching updates to your configured destinations.
An ordinary RSS reader may be enough for personal awareness. PageFluxer is useful when you want retained first-seen changes, a shared watch list and a review routine. This is an independent workflow, not a PyPI partnership.
What was tested, and what the entries contain.
On October 17, 2026 (UTC), one request to the Requests feed returned HTTP 200 with XML content. PageFluxer’s source parser read it as RSS and returned 40 entries. The inspected entries contained version titles, project descriptions and version-specific links.
This verifies retrieval and parsing of that response. No recurring watch was saved and no release notification was delivered during the test. The feed can change; preview it again before creating your watch.
| Question | Approach |
|---|---|
| Has this package published a release? | Watch its project-specific RSS feed for new entries. |
| What changed in that release? | Open the release link and the maintainer’s release notes; the feed description may only describe the package. |
| Did an existing release note change later? | Create a separate authorized text monitor for that note’s URL. |
| Is my installed dependency vulnerable or outdated? | Use dependency and security tooling; a release feed does not inspect your environment. |
Set up a quiet baseline and a useful review.
Choose the exact package feed.
Open Watch for new entries and paste
https://pypi.org/rss/project/requests/releases.xml, or the documented feed URL for the package you maintain. Confirm the package name and release links in the preview.Begin without a phrase filter.
Version titles can be numbers while descriptions repeat the package summary. A filter such as security or stable can miss releases because that wording is absent. Review the actual parsed fields before narrowing coverage.
Review the schedule and save.
Existing entries become the known baseline without a burst of alerts. A recurring source watch requires Pro or Business; source previews and importing selected existing pages are separate workflows.
Choose delivery and the next action.
Set email or a digest after saving. A Business workspace can use an available connected team channel and shared review state. Ask the reviewer to read release notes and evaluate the package in the normal update process.
Keep the source’s limits in your maintenance process.
The feed is a finite window, not a complete version inventory. Entries can rotate out between checks, and previously unseen old entries can be reported as first seen. Preview warnings and entry counts describe the response PageFluxer actually parsed.
A new-entry watch follows entry identities. An edit to a known entry is not a new release alert. Literal filters do not classify semantic versions, distinguish every prerelease or analyze whether a change is safe to install.
Use a modest interval and respect PyPI’s current service terms and rate limits. The documented feed supports this subscription workflow; it is not blanket permission to crawl unrelated pages or redistribute package content. Keep dependency updates and security review in your existing tools.
Test delivery with the PageFluxer practice workflow rather than waiting for a maintainer to release a new version. For multiple products, see the software release monitoring workflow.
